FREDERICTON -

New Brunswickers are being encouraged by Wellness, Culture and Sport Minister Hédard Albert to become active and enjoy the summer weather. Albert has announced the SummerActive campaign, an annual event which they year runs from May 8 to June 20.

"Summer is a great time to be outdoors, and I encourage all New Brunswickers to get out in the fresh air and take part in individual, family or organized community activities," Albert said. "What could be easier than hopping on your bike or putting on your sneakers and getting out to enjoy the natural beauty of our province this summer?"

The 2008 SummerActive campaign is a federal initiative adopted by all provinces and territories, designed to sow people how they can be more physically active, how they can become physical activity leaders, and what opportunities are available for taking part in sports and recreation during the summer. The campaign also promotes healthy eating and tobacco-free living as ways to enhance well-being and quality of life.

In the coming weeks, event organizers will use SummerActive posters to promote their events and remind everyone to be more active and enjoy a healthy diet. People may register their event and/or the activity they participated in on the SummerActive website, and have a chance to win prizes.

"I encourage everyone to visit the Wellness, Culture and Sport website, which offers interesting information and links on how to be active and get your community involved," Albert said.
