FREDERICTON (CNB) -

Nicole Smith stepped down as executive director of Sport NB to join the Secretariat for Community Non-Profit Organizations as executive director effective May 12. She has been with Sport NB since 2002.

"Nicole has been a leader for us over the past couple of years as we have developed a strong partnership with the business and government communities," Sport NB president Laura Swift Christie said.

"Recently she led the Sport NB component in the development of a Sport Plan for NB with our partners the Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport.

"We wish her the best and know she will continue to work for sport and other non-profit organizations in her new role."

"I am looking forward to working at the Community Non-Profit Organizations Secretariat and moving forward on the recommendations that will have a positive impact on non-profit organizations," Smith said.

"I am leaving a sport family that have been great to me but I know they will not be far as I take on my new challenge."

Jason Dickson has been appointed as the executive director. He is a former professional athlete and comes to Sport NB following three years as executive director of Baseball NB.

"We look forward to working with Jason as we implement new strategies and move forward on the sport plan for NB," Swift Christie said. "His understanding of provincial sport organizations will be a great asset to our organization".

"I am excited by the opportunity to keep moving forward the Sport NB agenda," Dickson said. "I look forward to working with our members and many partners."
