SUSSEX -
Forty-nine horses and riders spun and slid for cash and glory in two days of reining horse competition at the Princess Louise Park Show Centre during the final weekend of June.
The event, sponsored by the NB Codiac Reining Association, offered classes from ‘green as grass' for beginning reiners to $1,000 open divisions for more experienced horses and riders. Lynn Laforme from Quebec was the judge June 28 and Ontario's Lee Foster presided on the 29th.
Sophie Laverdiere, a level II certified coach from La Ferme Torema in Quebec, gave a three-day clinic on improving reining techniques prior to the show.
Participants benefited from the sessions, refining both their own riding skills and the performance levels of their horses. Sessions were held for both junior and adult riders.
The Maritime Quarter Horse Association ushered in the summer season at the Show Centre with its three-day Highland Classic.
More than 100 horses participated throughout the extended weekend demonstrating their prowess in both Western and English riding classes, in-hand and trail skills mastery.
On July 12-13, the Show Centre hosts the Sunrise Summer Classic, presented by the NB Morgan Horse Association. This event offers competitions for both Morgan and Arabian horses, including both English and Western riding, driving and in-hand classes.
There's also an event in which riders help to raise funds and awareness of breast cancer.
