MacDougall, Oxford double medalists

Allyson MacDougall and Geena Oxford of the Sussex Skating Club were each double medalists at Skate NB Provincial STARSkate Championships Feb. 29 to March 2.

Skaters qualify for the provincial championships by placing in the top eight in the eastern or western half of the province and can have as many as 16 skaters to compete against in their individual events. The competition was held at the Soldiers Arena in Oromocto.

MacDougall took the gold medal in bronze interpretive skating to ‘Spirit of Fire' as well as the silver in senior silver solo dance skating the Starlight Waltz and Kilian. She also performed in senior bronze freestyle, placing fifth overall.

Twelve-year-old Oxford mined gold in junior silver skating skills and silver in introductory interpretive skating to ‘Fly Away Home.' She also placed fourth in junior silver solo dance, doing a tango and foxtrot, and seventh in preliminary B freeskate.

Also representing the Sussex club were Kendall Bacon, Kendra Graham, Madeline Webb, Emily Veysey, Kate Brenan and associate member Hannah McKellar.

MacDougall and Oxford have been named to the NB Provincial STARSkate team for their accompishments. Patrick and Lauren Stockdale, also of the Sussex SC, have been named to the development A team for New Brunswick. These skaters will all be recognized at the Skate NB AGM and awards gala at Fort Howe in Saint John April 26.
