Green-thumbed vandals strike high school's greenhouse

SUSSEX Gardeners can't wait to get their hands in the dirt this spring, but at Sussex Regional High School, vandals went to great lengths or heights to get their hands dirty.
Cpl. Phil Oliver of the Sussex RCMP said the detachment investigated a complaint April 28 of a break-in at the school's greenhouse.
The vandals apparently climbed up the outside of the school like human ivy, gaining access by a window left open in the second-floor greenhouse.
"They threw about 36 plants around, but they didn't steal anything; it was basically mischief," said Cpl. Oliver.
Three dozen small ferns, worth about $1 each, were thrown onto the school's roof and lawn area.
Grubby fingerprints left at the scene couldn't be identified, so the file was closed on this rooftop caper.
Another school, Sussex Elementary, reported rooftop vandals earlier in April. The vandals damaged security lights near the school's roof.
