Warrant issued

Judge Henrik Tonning issued a warrant for David Daly, who failed to appear in Hampton April 29 on a charge of defrauding a taxi driver of taxi fare.

Guilty of sexual interference

Dwight Herbert Jathan, 30, pleaded guilty in Sussex May 1 to a charge of sexual interference and failing to comply with an undertaking.

The Sussex man admitted to touching someone under 14 years of age for a sexual purpose between Nov. 1 and April 22. Jathan also broke his undertaking April 23 in Sussex when he had contact with a person known to him he had been ordered to stay away from.

A victim impact statement and pre-sentence report were requested by the Crown and Jathan will return to court June 12 for sentencing.

Until then, Jathan has been returned to jail where he has been since his arrest last month.

Rogerson jailed for DWS

Troy Rogerson, 23, was sentenced to four months in jail May 1 for his eighth, ninth, 10th and 11th convictions for driving while suspended.

The one-time Willow Grove resident racked up his latest offenses between Aug 18 and Oct. 17 in the communities of Grand Bay-Westfield and Rothesay.

Rogerson told the court he had learned his lesson but had about $6,000 owing on previous fines.

"He's had the benefit of fines in the past," Judge Henrik Tonning said before delivering his sentence in provincial court.

Rogerson will serve one month in jail for each of the convictions for a total of four months.

Kicked out police car window

Glen Alexander Merrill, 26, pleaded guilty in Sussex May 2 to mischief damage to a police car.

The Sussex Corner man was highly intoxicated when found by police at a residence in Sussex Corner. He was arrested because he was on probation at the time of the Dec. 29 offense.

After being taken to the detachment, Merrill was very upset and kicked out the rear driver side window of the cruiser he was in, causing $210 in damage.

Judge Henrik Tonning ordered him to pay for the damages and has placed him on probation for six months, during which time he must keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

Alcoholic jailed

Michael LeBlanc, 42, was sentenced in Sussex May 2 to seven days in jail for failing to obey a court order and appear in court.

The Moncton man, an admitted alcoholic, was arrested Jan. 7 in Four Corners after a bus driver reported he was causing problems for passengers. LeBlanc was held in cells, at which time police found his order not to consume alcohol.

Judge Henrik Tonning said it was clear LeBlanc needed help. He has served several stints in jail for failing to comply with orders not to drink alcohol. LeBlanc said he was headed to detox within a week so Tonning jailed him for seven days to allow him to go get the treatment he needs.
