As part of the Sussex Golf & Curling Club'•s 40th anniversary of its incorporation, the clubhouse plans to post several photos and press clippings during the Sept. 20 weekend. Here'•s a picture from the 1969 Sussex Invitational golf tournament at the Roachville nine-hole course, where three club pros played a friendly competition. From left: Herb Madill of the Algonquin club in St. Andrews, Doug MacAfee of Sussex and pro at Fundy National Park, and Ken McBride of Oromocto (who would later become the Sussex pro).

Congratulations to Kris Leask, Adam Aiton and Marcus Aiton for their very convincing win at the Miramichi Golf Club three-man scramble. The guys finished 25-under-par and won the event by seven shots over a very strong field of 69 entries.

Congratulations to Barb Dempster, Margot Clark, Elva MacLean and Heather Trenholm, who represented the club at the Fore The Cure provincial championships at the Lakeside Golf Club in Moncton. They finished fifth in the tournament, but presented the biggest cheque to the Canadian Cancer Society in the amount of $8,300.

If New Brunswick raised the biggest amount amongst the provinces, then our team gets an invitation to the nationals in Toronto next month. So all those who participated, sponsored and organized our local event should be proud of doing such a fine job of raising this amount of money.

Congratulations to the team representing the club in the Past Presidents Interclub Challenge, which traveled to the Herring Cove club on Campobello Aug. 16 and recorded a slim lead. However, the Campobello fellows decided to forfeit the match rather than travel to Sussex the next day. This was our team's second win and our next opponent will be Bouctouche, which defeated Pine Needles.

The Aug. 11 Milton Downey Wishmaker tournament raised about $11,000. Thanks to Murray O'Connor and committee for their untiring dedication.

The ladies have completed their round-robin league play. The four teams who will move on to the playdowns are Judy Juteau and Judy Wood, who will play Lois Sherwood and Gerry Eagles; and Barb Dempster and Sally Kwong, who will play Joyce Young and Pauline Crealock. The winning teams will advance to the finals.

The men's Tuesday play is going along smoothly. Our statistician is asking that the men use their team number to identify their scorecards. The leaders by division are: Norb Strang & Brad Bettle, first division; Andy Simpson & Jimmy Carter, second division; and George Myers & Tony Mace, third division. The divisions are very close and there is still a lot of time to gain ground.

Remember to take part in the 40th anniversary bash, Sept. 20 and 21. Tickets can be purchased at the office.

Also remember to fix your ball mark on the green and one more. See you next week.
