Describe Your Products
Specialty jellies, jams, hand blended seasonings, flavored vinegars and syrups all made from locally produced berries, fruits, produce and herbs.
How did you get into the market business?
We started out as customers of various farmers markets and got caught up in the atmosphere of the "local market" environment. We also both had an entrepreneurial spirit and decided we wanted to showcase New Brunswick products in our own way.
How long have you been selling at the Sussex Farmers Market?
This is our first year.
What keeps you coming back to the Sussex Farmers Market?
The market manager, Karen Black, is great to work with, the atmosphere is uniquely rural New Brunswick and all our fellow vendors are friendly, thoughtful and considerate. They all work as a team. There is an excellent cross-section of people attending the market.
If you weren't in this business, what would you likely be doing?
Likely we would be still stuck in the rat race of commuting to work with no time off to meet new people and no time to follow our passion for cooking and creating new recipes.
Do you have any family or friends who help you in your market business?
Sure, all our family are our guinea pigs for testing purposes. They decide whether a product we create has sales potential. They also offer great encouragement, even though they don't understand why we would walk away from perfectly good jobs to do this.
What's your favorite product (besides your own) at the Sussex Farmers Market?
They're all great. Everyone puts a great deal of effort into the things they sell at the market, whether it be food, fudge, crafts or produce.
What else would you like to tell us about yourself?
When we had our first brainstorming session about where we would like the business to go, we realized that we wanted more than anything to showcase New Brunswick products. We love seeing people return to our booth to tell us how much they have enjoyed our products. We look forward to meeting new people at the market and hope you enjoy the experience.
