MELFORT, Sask. - Court has heard that a 12-year-old Saskatchewan girl was hysterical and unco-operative when she was brought to hospital after an alleged sex assault.

Dr. Linda Sommer testified at the trial of Jeffrey Brown that the girl had to be given a sedative before she could be examined to see if she had been sexually assaulted.

Sommer also said the girl was obviously intoxicated, could barely stand and had some scratches and bruises on various parts of her body.

Under cross-examination by Brown's defence lawyer, Sommer said she didn't find any sperm on the girl.

Brown is being tried for a second time on a charge of sexual assault.

He is one of three men who were charged after the 12-year-old was allegedly assaulted on a country road near Tisdale, Sask., in 2001.
